Third Angle is committed to providing an environment that is free of discrimination. Actions, words, or comments based on an individual’s sex, race, ethnicity, age, religion, marital status, military status, disability, sexual orientation, political ideology, or any other legally protected characteristic are not tolerated.

In this spirit, we are in the process of deeply evaluating the inner workings of our organization—how our actions in hiring, staffing, programming, commissioning, and policy making will actively combat racism in the new music community, while uplifting and celebrating voices that have historically been silenced.

We are proud signatories of the New Music Equity Action (NMEA) Pledge, and we commit to the long-term responsibility of working actively against inequity, racism, and anti-Blackness in our field.

As laid out in the NMEA Pledge, we are crafting a comprehensive five-year cultural equity plan for our programming, commissioning, and artistic collaborations to fully reflect the diversity of the United States and its most diverse communities.

Transparency is imperative to us, and we will update this page with more information on other actions we are taking to build a more diverse and equitable organization and community, including a full audit of our past and current programming and artist rosters.

At Third Angle New Music, it is our objective that our organization, programming, and community reflect the true diversity and vitality of new music.

ACCESS 3A

Addressing the need for more accessible arts opportunities for adults experiencing disability.

In Fall 2022 Third Angle launched  Access 3A: an initiative addressing the need for more accessible arts opportunities for adults experiencing disability. As part of this initiative we created our Access Coordinator Position, integrated interpretation and accessibility services into our concerts and provided ticket ticket subsidies to reduce barriers to participation in 3A’s programming.

We continue to foster open conversation to spread awareness and find new ways to address the lack of access to arts events. In May 2024, 3A hosted a panel discussion in which local disability advocates and accessibility service providers provided expert insight for an audience of arts-goers and arts administrators.

In addition to captioning, ASL interpretation and audio description services, the 24/25 season will feature a special collaboration with local accessibility advocates CymaSpace to provide wearable haptic vests for deaf/hard of hearing audience members at People Into Trees.

For the 24/25 season, Third Angle welcomes Lavender-Cygnet de Julia as our Access Coordinator. Lavender-Cygnét is a bold, unapologetic voice in the Accessibility field, consistently making strides for the prioritization of Disability Crit in Art Spaces. Hailing from Oakland, CA, Lavender was exposed to grassroots organizing from a young age by their Deaf mother, and dedicated their career to merging their love for Art History with the human right for creative freedom. Lavender has had the privilege to serve as an accessibility consultant for organizations such as The Exploratorium, The Getty Foundation, The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Coachella (Golden Voice), and several more arts organizations across the United States.
