A New Music Mini-Festival

Join Third Angle New Music for an outdoor new music mini-festival at the idyllic Topaz Farm, located just 10-miles from downtown Portland on Sauvie Island. The afternoon and evening includes three one-hour sets (with breaks in between) and features some of your favorite 3A artists. Bring your picnic blankets, dine on local farm-to-table delicacies, and enjoy this perfect summer evening of thrilling new music.

Steel pan music kicks off Team 3A’s Fresh Air Fest with percussion powerhouses Andy Akiho and Sandbox Percussion’s Ian Rosenbaum. This dazzling duo will delight us with music by Akiho for steel pan, vibraphone and marimba.

Join us for a synesthetic burst of joy and beauty as Team 3A carries Debussy's famous flute, viola and harp chamber ensemble into the 21st century. Featuring flutist Sarah Tiedemann, violist Wendy Richman, and harpist Sophie Baird-Daniel performing works of Takemitsu, Angélica Négron, Evan Williams, GLFCAM alum Iman Habibi, and local composer Yuan-Chen Li.

THE WHYTE ALBUM

Third Angle’s rockstar percussionist Chris Whyte takes center stage in Christopher Cerrone’s haunting work Memory Palace. Also featuring the world premiere of Whyte’s newest composition about Oregon winemaking, alongside works of Andy Akiho and Andrew Rodriguez, with guests Valdine Mishkin, cello, and Sarah Tiedemann, flute.

Where does the festival take place?

The safe, outdoor mini-music festival happens just 10-miles from downtown Portland on Sauvie Island at Topaz Farm (17100 NW Sauvie Island Rd, Portland, OR 97231)

How long is the show?

Approximately 4 1/2 hours, which includes three separate concerts and two 45-minute intermissions.

How do I get tickets?

Wristbands are available for purchase online and by phone in advance. $40 for adults, $35 for seniors, and $25 for students and include all three sets. Single tickets will not be available at this event. Order Tickets Now

Where can I sit?

Audience members can sit anywhere on the beautiful property in the general admission area and are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and low lawn chairs. For those who purchase the VIP experience, we will have a picnic table reserved and waiting for your arrival.

What is the VIP experience? 

The VIP full-festival experience includes a reserved picnic table where you can enjoy all three sets, a picnic box, and a copy of our latest CD, Alone, Dancing: Music of South Asian American Composers. VIP package available until 5:00pm on July 2. Order Tickets Now

What time should I arrive?

Seating will open 45 minutes before showtime @ 2:45 pm. Spaces are first come, first served; arriving early gives the best possibility of a spot close to the stage. (Consider purchasing a VIP package and your seat will be reserved and waiting for you!

What amenities will be on-site?

  • Parking. Free on-site parking is available. 

  • Restrooms. Portable restrooms and hand washing stations are available, and are spaced at least 6 feet apart. The Topaz Farm ADA-accessible store also has two ADA restrooms available from 9 am - 5 pm. 

  • SWAG. Attendees can purchase the latest 3A swag and will be the first to have access to copies of our latest CD release, Alone, Dancing: Music of South Asian American Composers

  • Food and Drink for Purchases. There will be beer and wine and a variety of food and snack options available for cash or credit card purchases throughout the day. The Topaz Farm Cafe is also open from 9 am - 5 pm and the Outdoor Grill from 12 pm - 7 pm. Please note that all food that is not pre-ordered is a short walk away from the concert site. All food available at the concert site must be pre-ordered by Friday, July 2. No outside food or beverage allowed. 

  • Pre-ordered Picnic Boxes. Our picnic boxes are filled with fresh local foods. Picnic boxes are no longer available for pre-order.

Is this venue fully accessible?

From car to blanket, the walk to the festival site is roughly 250 feet and reasonably level. Please note that much of the farm is either grass or dirt roads and/or pathways. If you have accessibility issues, please reach out to us at info@thirdangle.org and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What should I wear?

Dressing in cool, comfortable attire is encouraged. Please also plan accordingly and bring sunscreen, hats, and layers in case the temperature fluctuates over the course of the afternoon. (And, of course, don’t forget your mask!)

Is this something we can do while COVID restrictions are in place?

Yes. This event complies with Oregon State guidance for outdoor events. Please attend with members of your established COVID pod. Third Angle’s musicians, staff, volunteers, and board members have all been vaccinated in an effort to provide the safest environment.

Please arrive at the Fresh Air Fest fully vaccinated. We recognize that some vulnerable populations and young children might not have the opportunity to get the COVID-19 vaccine. In an effort to continue to keep us all safe, we will be seating patrons in clusters within your family or pod. We ask that if you are not vaccinated that you stay masked when not eating or drinking.

As always, we respect your personal safety needs, and support you masking and distancing as you need to so that you can enjoy the festival.

Are pets allowed?

Topaz Farm is a working farm and has strict health and safety rules with the Department of Agriculture, therefore, they do not allow dogs or any pets on the farm. Thank you for understanding. 

Can I come early and make a day of it?

Absolutely!  Grab your friends and stay on Sauvie Island for the whole day!  Start your day at Topaz Farm, where you can enjoy the local farmers market and explore the farm - which has lots of farm animals to enjoy, including goats, mini-donkeys and even a mini cow!  While you’re there, purchase a full-day parking pass and enjoy Sauvie Island for the day.

What is there to do on Sauvie Island?

While you’re at Topaz Farm for the Farmers Market, we highly recommend giving yourself time to explore the beautiful surroundings of Sauvie Island before the mini-fest begins. The island is a wonderland of sandy beaches to wander, water to splash, and trails to hike. Please note that parking permits are required to park in all Sauvie Island wildlife areas and are available for $10 for a full-day parking pass at the Topaz Farm Market.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Tickets are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend in person, we can reseat you to a later show in our 2021-22 season or donate your tickets back to Third Angle New Music. In cases of emergency, please contact admin@thirdangle.org and we will do our best to accommodate special requests.
