William Pyle | saxophone
Will Pyle is a saxophonist and media artist who works to tease out intangible emotion in mediums of functional communication– music notation, photography, typography and video. He lives and appreciates nature in Portland, OR.
Will has a deep love of chamber music. He is a founding member of the Aruna Quartet which has garnered national and international acclaim, including the Grand Prize of the 46th Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Will also makes music as a part of the unusual harp and saxophone trio, keystring. In Portland, Will plays officially with Third Angle New Music, ChatterPDX and unofficially with many others. His primary teachers include David Dees at Texas Tech University and Chein-Kwan Lin at the Eastman School of Music.
As an arts administrator, Will is the Communications Director for Third Angle New Music. He serves as Executive Director of the Aruna Quartet’s non-profit organization and takes a lead role in managing commissions, fundraising, and community outreach efforts. He serves on the boards of Seattle based non-profit Live Music Project and Rochester, NY- based new music ensemble fivebyfive.
