Elise Yun | piano

Pianist Elise Yun has performed in solo and collaborative recitals in the United States and abroad, including the Ravinia Festival Steans Institute and Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. As a chamber musician, she has performed in venues such as Merkin Hall, Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Esplanade Hall-Singapore, and for broadcasts on WQXR-NYC, WGBH-Boston, and All-Classical Portland.  She has performed extensively with cellist Hekun Wu and the duo has recorded on the Bridge, Albany and CRC labels. 

As an educator, Dr. Yun has given masterclasses and lecture-recitals in the U.S. and abroad. She has taught at The Juilliard School as a Teaching Fellow, and on the faculty at New York University, Wellesley College, and Willamette University. A graduate of Wellesley College, she completed her master’s degree at The Juilliard School and doctoral studies at New York University. Her principal teachers have been Charles Fisk, Martin Canin and Jerome Lowenthal.  She was a recipient of the Nellie Tholen Foundation Grant and the Oregon Career Opportunity Grant to study Dalcroze eurhythmics at The Longy School and French art song in Paris. She has presented lecture-recitals at conferences for the College Music Society, the Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities, Oregon Music Teachers Association (OMTA), and the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA).

Dr. Yun was one of the founding faculty of the Soochow University School of Music (China), where she was coordinator of the piano department. She has been an adjudicator at numerous competitions in the U.S. and China and has taught and performed at the Wellesley Composers Conference, Interharmony Summer Festival in Italy, and the Music and More SummerFest in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Since 2018, she has been based in Portland, where she continues to teach piano and is founder of a college planning service for music students, Elysian Educational Consulting.
